She stared angrily out of the window into the blackness of the night. She was angry and afraid. He’d promised they’d leavc his parents house early so they could be home before dark. He knew how she felt about driving along this road, especially at night. Sometimes David laughed at her fears, other times he was frustrated at what he saw as he irrational fear of this particular road.

“It’s just another road, Cathy, so this fear is completly irrational.” he told her.

Whatever his reactions, Cathy knew he was right. Her fear was irrational, but it was also very real, especially to Cathy. However, nothing he said made any difference, and it didn’t change the way that Cathy felt, to her, the fear was very real and very strong. She hated arguing, but he’d promised and he’d broken that promise. Now was not only angry she was terrified.

The Fen Causeway or Roman Road, ran for about 24 miles between Denver, Norfolk and Peterborough, where David’s parents lived, and they still had more than ten miles to go before they got onto what Cathy called, a normal road.

Cathy was just weeks away from giving birth to their first child, a little girl. They’d spent a wonderful weekend with David’s parents and it shouldn’t be ending like this. She reached out into the darkness and took his hand as she apologized. She was still angry, this was not her fault. David had broken his promise to her, that was what made her so angry. They had to have complete trust between them. He should never have broken his promise, but she didn’t want to argue. However, if he’d kept his promise, they would be safely home now and she’d be able to forget her fear, at least for a little while. David smiled and apologised. He said how sorry he was and told her how much he loved her.

Suddenly, there was a blinding light, as Cathy screamed and called his name.

He woke up and eventually realized he must be in a hospital. but why? Why was he here? How long and he been here? More importantly, who was he?
