In September 1939 war was declared between Britain and Germany, World War Two had begun. For the first year nothing happened. Well, that’s not strictly true, nothing much happened in Britain, but in Europe and at sea, the war raged on and became more brutal every day, but in Britain, nothing happened and it was called ‘the phoney war’ There were changes of course, food began going on ration, and gas masks now had to be carried everywhere. The sirens sounded often, but they were all just false alarms or perhaps the sirens were being tested. Other than these minor inconveniences, life went on pretty much as usual.

I chose this book specifically because the subject of autism is very real and is such an important subject. The book was written by my granddaughter Kelsey, who is the mother of an autistic child. All the pictures in the book are drawn by my great granddaughter, although she is not autistic, she drew the pictures as Kelsey described them to her and are meant to show some of the confusion that goes on in the mind of an autistic child. This little book is a must read for all families whether or not you have an autistic child.
