Charlie was a homeless child living on the streets of London. He came from a loving home. His widowed mother always ensured that he was well educated from a very young age. But then she’d married Mr. Cornelius Hardcastle. Before they were married, Charlie’s stepfather had appeared to be loving and kind, but soon he turned into an angry, violent man who often beat Charlie, because he said it would make him a better man, One day Mr. Hardcastle told Charlie that his mother had left them because Charlie was such a bad child and that she no longer loved them. Charlie was told that he’d have to go into an orphanage because Mr. Hardcastle could no longer look after him. After a few years in the orphanage, he was told that he would have to leave and look after himself. Living on the streets of London, Charlie soon learned that there was no place for a ‘posh kid’ among the homeless children, so he soon learned to speak like the other homeless street urchins.
One day, Charlie finds a ring, which he decides to sell to Fiddling Froggy, but as he gives it one last polish, the head of a genie appears and tells Charlie that he’ll give him three wishes, but first he must find the genie’s body which has been hidden by a wicked wizard. In order to find the pieces of the genie’s body, Charlie must complete a number of tasks. To help him complete these tasks, Charlie will have a little helper. The problem is that his helper can only speak in rhyme and Charlie has to understand the rhymes in order to survive.
